There are also a number of small outstations\u003cbr\u003earound Yuendumu. These include Yuwali (Bean Tree),\u003cbr\u003eWakurlpa, Purturlu (Mt. Theo), Jirla (Chilla Well),\u003cbr\u003eYarripirlangu, Wayililinpa, and many more.\u003cbr\u003eThere are many sites around Yuendumu that are associated\u003cbr\u003ewith different ‘Jukurrpa’ (Dreamings). These sites include a\u003cbr\u003emajor ‘yunkaranyi Jukurrpa’ (honey ant Dreaming), which\u003cbr\u003etravels from the west to the east. Yuendumu is sometimes\u003cbr\u003ealso called ‘yurrampi’ (honey ant) for this reason.\u003cbr\u003eA very big ‘ngapa Jukurrpa’ (water Dreaming) travels past\u003cbr\u003eYuendumu from the south far to the north. This Jukurrpa\u003cbr\u003estops at Warlura, a waterhole 8 miles east of Yuendumu,\u003cbr\u003eand at Jukajuka, an important rock formation.\u003cbr\u003e‘Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa’ (fire country Dreaming) lies to the\u003cbr\u003ewest of Yuendumu, on the way to Nyirrpi. You can see the\u003cbr\u003e‘warlu’ (fire) in the form of hundreds of red ‘mingkirri’\u003cbr\u003e(termite mounds) that rise out of the ground in this area.\u003cbr\u003eOther Jukurrpa around Yuendumu include a ‘janganpa\u003cbr\u003eJukurrpa’ (brush-tailed possum [Tricosurus vulpecula]\u003cbr\u003eDreaming) associated with the hills to the north, and a\u003cbr\u003e‘yankirri Jukurrpa’ (emu [Dromaius novaehollandiae ]\u003cbr\u003eDreaming) associated with Ngarlikirlangu, a rock formation\u003cbr\u003eto the north. A ‘warlawurru Jukurrpa’ (wedge-tailed eagle\u003cbr\u003e[Aquila audax] Dreaming) is associated with the Wakurlpa\u003cbr\u003eoutstation and hills. A very big ‘warna Jukurrpa’ (snake\u003cbr\u003eDreaming) passes through Mijirlparnta (Mission Creek),\u003cbr\u003ewest of Yuendumu. This Jukurrpa tells the story of a blind\u003cbr\u003eand crippled python, Yarripiri, who was carried by the\u003cbr\u003e‘kurdungurlu’ (custodians) of the Jukurrpa from the south to\u003cbr\u003ethe far north.
